Bio

I hold an interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley. My degree, titled “Land, Policy and Representation in the West” focused on rangeland policy, sociology of food distribution, and cultural geography. My undergraduate thesis focused on conservation easements and their effect on family lands. My intellectual influences include Wendell Berry, Victor Davis Hanson, Joan Didion, Wallace Stegner and Wayne Hage.

I own a consulting business called Broken Arrow Branding. It is named after my grandmother’s cattle brand, to which I inherited the rights.

With a family background in cattle ranching as well as a degree from a liberal university, I have a foot in two worlds: utility of the land for economic gain, and the need to preserve and protect native species for perpetuity. I believe that environmentalists and agriculturalists can and have successfully worked together to achieve conservation goals, on common ground.
